BEFORE WE DECIDED TO HAVE CHILDREN, I DIDN’T EVEN WANT TO BE A MUM! AS FOR KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT CHILDREN – WELL, MY KNOWLEDGE WAS LIMITED! SO HERE IS A LIST OF 5  THINGS ALL NEW MUMS SHOULD KNOW

When my husband and I decided we wanted children (and three of them at that!), we both had limited knowledge about what to expect. Gained from our sisters who had children we sort of acquired knowledge of the basics but there are some really important pieces of advice that I wish I knew before becoming a mum.

1. DON’T LISTEN TO EVERYONE

When it comes to having a baby everyone has a story, everyone has an opinion, everyone has advice on what you should and shouldn’t do. But, their babies are not your baby, and you know your baby better than anyone. If you are struggling or your little one is having difficulties then seek the proper medical help.

2. SLEEP

Get plenty of it whenever you can. Oh my goodness, nothing but nothing can prepare you for the lack of sleep a new baby will bring, and yet nothing can help you more with the other trials a baby brings than having a good night’s sleep behind you…or even a few hours snatched when you can.

3. DON’T COMPARE YOUR BABY TO ANOTHER

Every baby and child is individual and there are no set rules. As long as your baby is feeding well, growing and developing it’s ok; everything happens in THEIR own time.

4. DON’T WORRY ABOUT A THING

Cliché I know, but it doesn’t matter if you haven’t washed in days, the washing-up is piling up and dinner is cold beans on hard toast……….you will survive and that is what they invented onesies and take-away for, right?! Be kind to yourself. These first weeks of your baby’s life are so precious (and time-consuming!) everything else can just be put on hold for a while.

5. EVERYTHING PASSES

ack of sleep, temper tantrums, teething troubles……..and the list goes on. Time and patience are all you need. Easier said than done when you are the middle of chaos but take a step back, grab a cold cup of tea and breathe…..

EVERYTHING WILL BE ALL RIGHT.
