Birthday boy River is the youngest of three brothers. It was such a joy to see him again after photographing him for his newborn portraits the year before. When mum and dad booked River in they had a good look through through my Samphire Pinterest cake smash inspiration page. I send this link out to all people who book in for a cake smash session. It often helps those struggling to decide on a theme, giving them inspiration as to what is possible for their own session. Of course, you don’t have to use any of these ideas and are more than welcome to opt for your own colours and/or themes. I am more than happy either way.
River’s mum wanted a blue dinosaur theme as his latest trick is roaring whenever he sees a dinosaur. So cute!! She also let me know that she has a baby blue outfit to put him in. So, considering this and also thinking about his colouring, I decided to opt for an Oxford Blue backdrop.
The session
River was amazing! Such a happy little boy. He enjoyed not only his pre-smash portraits, but the smash itself and the bath afterwards. The colours, as I thought they would, suited him perfectly. He got stuck in and particularly liked the white icing dinosaurs. The bubbles I always use in the splash section at the end were also a hit, and show up really well against the backdrop.

After the session
I always guarantee 20 images for all my clients, which get edited and put into an online viewing gallery but there are always soooo many more great images from a cake smash session. Most parents end up viewing 40-50 images! The best thing about this is that if you purchase the whole gallery you get all the images. Whether there are 20 or 60, at the same cost!
