Due Date Delivery

Oh my word, how cute is this little poppet?  Did you see those baby bunny ears?!  This gorgeous girl came to see me in the Samphire studio for her newborn portraits when she was 11 days old, and this clever little bundle was one of the 4% of babies who arrive on their actual due date.  Quite a rarity in my experience as a newborn photographer Billingshurst. Needless to say, the due date is only an indication of a likely time for the birth. It’s more an estimated arrival date. But even so, it’s quite a heart-warming thought to know she’s part of this particular minority.

Yep, you read that right. Figures indicate that a baby is born on its predicted due date just 4% of the time?  That’s only 1 in 25 births. So, as you can imagine, I move my newborn sessions quite a lot of the time. I rarely work to the original date I have in the diary. So am totally used to it and sessions are often confirmed on a week-by-week basis. You don’t have to worry once you’re booked in, you can leave that all up to me.

Sessions are scheduled for a provisional date about a week after your due date.  New mums often worry that they may not be able to make this date due to little ones arriving early or late. Or sometimes an unexpected prolonged stay in hospital means that you can’t come in straight away. I tell all my mums-to-be not to worry. Booking in just means that you have secured space in my diary. The actual session date only gets confirmed once your little one arrives and you are all back home from the hospital.

Romy

Baby Romy is really rather special too.  She was an absolute dream to photograph. She was 11 days old when she came into the Samphire studio for her photoshoot. This is the perfect age for newborn portraits. It’s during the first two weeks after birth that we have the maximum opportunity to capture all those adorable curled-up, sleepy baby images.  And didn’t we do just that? Romy totally suited the palette of soft pinks with a little touch of green that we used. Plus she was happy to wear hats, headbands, and not forgetting those fabulous bunny ears.  I think we captured plenty of images for Mum & Dad to treasure of their simply beautiful baby girl.

We take our time with newborn sessions to ensure that mother (and father) and baby are relaxed. Newborn sessions can last up to four hours to give plenty of time for settling your baby, top-up feeds, nappy changes, cuddles. I am also more than happy to take pictures with the parents as well. We encourage parents to get involved, and before your session we advise you on what to expect and what you need to bring with you on the day.

Thoughtful Gift

The studio session itself was a gift from one of Mum’s friends ~ what a wonderful and thoughtful way to celebrate and record the arrival of a new baby, they obviously have a very special friendship.  And the images will be a treasured reminder of this special bond, every time they see them. Yet another reason as to why it is important to display your images.

Newborn portraits are such a great way to capture your newborn’s first few weeks. Here at Samphire Photography, I photograph children and babies from all over Sussex and Surrey. So if you are travelling to me from Ditchling, Dorking or Danehill, it’s good to know I have a warm and welcoming studio, all set up and ready for you. There is an off-road parking space too, so you can take your little ones out of the car in safety.

The studio itself is a relaxing space, where you can help yourself to a cup of tea or coffee. You even get to drink it while it’s still hot, as I will be taking care of everything with your baby. The studio is kept at a toasty temperature for baby’s comfort, so sit back, relax, chat, or even snooze!
