Maternity Photoshoot

Before their shoot, clients often ask me questions about how to prepare for your maternity photoshoot. Let me run you through what you can look forward to from this type of portrait session.

First and foremost, congratulations! Whether you are a first time mum, or a seasoned pro, this is a truly special time in a woman’s life. Samphire’s maternity portraits are the perfect way to celebrate your journey into motherhood. Whether you choose to have your portraits taken in the relaxed environment of our studio or on location, remembering this special time through our portraiture will create lasting keepsakes that you will cherish forever.

When to book

• I recommend having a maternity portrait session between 28-36 weeks. This is a time when your bump will be showing at its most beautiful but allows you to still be comfortable throughout the photoshoot.

• It is also not too near to the due date where the mother-to-be may miss her scheduled photography session due to an early delivery.

Sessions

• These can last up to two hours and are very relaxed with plenty of time for a cup of tea!

• If you would prefer your portraits on location, whether it be on the beach or in the woods we make sure that it is the perfect location for you.

What to bring

• Please feel free to bring along any special toys or newborn shoes for the new baby, which you would like include in some of your portraits, or any other items personal to
you which you feel may act as complementary props for the shoot.

• Partners and children are always welcome. Although not all poses will include everyone they help to add another dimension to your images.

What to wear

• Let me help you to look amazing. I have a fabulous selection of beautiful maternity gowns, fabrics and other accessories for you to select from when you come into the studio. So you don’t need to worry about bringing anything other than a pretty set of black and of white lingerie if you have them. But if there is a particular outfit you would like to be photographed wearing then please feel free to bring it along.

• Many of my images showcase the gowns and fabrics I have available but often, if clients are comfortable, I photograph expectant mothers using just the beauty of their own skin. If you prefer to be a bit more covered I provide seamless nude underwear.

A spot of pampering

• How to prepare for your maternity session? Well, this is a special and fun session so a little bit of pampering before your shoot always works wonders. Having your hair and nails done or even simply taking the time to have a relaxing bubble bath, gives you a few additional hours beforehand to relax and feel amazing. It is also worth giving your belly a quick moisturise before the shoot which will help to eliminate any possible dry skin.

• Try to avoid tight-fitting clothing for a few hours before the shoot to avoid any marks on your skin. Putting aside some time for yourself to simply feel fabulous is well worth it, as the best photographs are created when expectant mothers feel relaxed and confident.

•  If you would like to spoil yourself even more, then just ask me about including hair and make-up in your package.

Family time

I often get asked if husbands and children can take part in the session and the answer to that is, absolutely! This is just as important a time for your whole family and allows us to capture the relationship within your family that you will cherish forever.

After the session

Around 1-2 weeks after you shoot, your images will be invited back to view you images in the studio and decide on which products you may like to purchase as a memory of this special time. If thinking about wall art have places in mind where you would like to hand your memories so that you are aware of what size frames to invest in.
